Video of The Day: NASCAR Driver Jeff Gordon Gets His Revenge

With the exception of “make it fun”, the video below (big budget, big star) has few best practices for small to medium sized businesses seeking to marketing with online video. But watch anyway because it is fun!

The passenger in the back seat of this “cab ride” had cast doubt on the authenticity of an earlier video Pepsi produced in which NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon took a car salesman on a “test drive.”   No doubt, the blogger won’t cast the same aspersions about this video.  As you will see — and likely enjoy — he was punked to a degree Ashton Kutcher would loudly applaude.

Very fun. Very revenge. Very served cold!  For that, “Jeff Gordon Gets His Revenge” gets our nod for “Video of the Day!”

Video of the Day: Lakemaid Beer Drone Delivery

The Washington Post today published an article about a Minnesota beer producer drawing the unwanted attention of the Federal Aviation Administration.  The reason: The video below, which shows a drone delivering a 12-pack of Lakemaid Beer to an ice house on a frozen lake.

Several astute (and presumably informed) commentators quickly noted that there is no way a drone could carry the weight of a 12-pack, but as previously noted here on DC OnlineVideo, the commercial use of drones, is a no-no as the FAA warned Lakemaid, “While we are evaluating many potential uses of [drones] as we move toward their safe integration into the nation’s airspace, commercial operation of such aircraft is not yet allowed.”

Note:  We watched this video on three different websites none of which incorporated a call-to-action at the end of the video that allows a viewers to connect with Lakemaid, or even listed their web URL.  As of this date, that’s 400,000+ missed connections.  But for brilliant and humorous online video marketing, and for drawing the needless ire of the FAA, Lakemaid Beer Drone Delivery gets our vote for Video of The Day.

The VALPO Services Difference (video)

DCOnlineVideo produced and published the video below on behalf of Valpo Services, a small business that provides heating & air conditioning services and repair in the Washington, DC region.

The company was seeking ways to create a more personal interaction with their website visitors by emphasizing the importance of trust in their interactions with customers.

This video went live in early 2014 and will be promoted via email follow up with interested prospects and embedded into the company’s Yelp and Angie’s List web pages.

DCOnlineVideo credits include pre-production management, interviewing, video recording, post-production editing, publishing to YouTube including keyword tagging, and the writing of promotional email campaigns.

Video of The Day: Ice Circle or Aliens UFO

The video clip below demonstrates the random, unpredictable, and zany realities of YouTube. A friend posted the clip in 2009 after recording video of an ice circle, in which an almost perfect circle is cut by water flow. To date, it has received more than 36,000 views, as has a companion clip. The video was also sold for a small licensing fee to a TV producer preparing a program on natural phenomenons.

No doubt, the keywords “Aliens” and “UFO” increased discovery and viewing, as the clip was linked to other videos related to these topics. Therein, lies the best practice for marketers who use online video. Identify and use common terms and tags in your titles and metadata. If so, your viewers will more easily discover the videos you’ve published, and in the process, self-guide their discovery of your people, products and services.
